Introduction

HOW TO SAY IT THE WAY IT IS! is an exhibition of selected works from the a/political collection which took place at Rua Red Gallery in South Dublin from 7 October – 2 December 2017. It features works by Franko B, Petr Davydtchenko, Democracia, Kendell Geers, Leon Golub, John Heartfield, IRWIN, Peter Kennard, Kenneth Phillipps, Barbara Kruger, Oleg Kulik, Andrei Molodkin, Gustav Metzger, Shirin Neshat, Arsen Savadov, Andres Serrano, Santiago Sierra and Ai Weiwei, many of whom have never shown in Ireland before.

The exhibition was also featuring workshops, talks and events to highlight issues that have affected the artists personally, challenging the domestic and political arenas through the exploration of how we as people repond to power.

I have been commissioned to create 2 promotional supports, a teaser video and the catalog of the exhibition. The result is a reinterpretation of the language of power, turning propaganda inside out, with a violence, proeminent in the tools of state repression, transcribed both in the visual composition of the video than the layout of the catalog.

The catalog has been turned into a popular newspaper / tabloïd format, using the same salmon recycled paper as the Financial Times. The layout associates reproductions of politically engaged artworks together, creating debates and questioning the reader about his own position regarding the state oppression.

The video transcribes the violence of the subjects discussed, a disturbing mix of racial hate, state repression, war and homophobia.
